How to transport your cat safely

Going to the vet does not have to be a nightmare for your cat

Veterinary visits are essential to maintain your cat’s health and well-being. For many cats and their humans, the carrier and car ride can be stressful.

With a little preparation, the experience can become calmer and more positive for both of you.

1. Choose the right carrier

  • Use a rigid, secure carrier, ideally with front and top doors.
  • Keep the carrier clean and in good condition so unusual smells do not create rejection.

2. Make the carrier familiar

  • Leave it open at home as part of the environment.
  • Place a soft blanket inside so your cat can use it as a safe resting spot.
  • Add a toy or blanket with your cat’s scent to make it more comfortable.

3. On appointment day

  • Wait until your cat is calm and close the carrier gently.
  • Cover the carrier with a light blanket to reduce visual stimulation.
  • Secure the carrier in the car with the seat belt.
  • At the clinic, keep the carrier covered and place it in a quiet area.

4. Is your cat very nervous?
